How to Plan a Knee Surgery in Materialise Mimics Core

Discover how to combine the tools from the Analysis and Simulation modules to plan a knee surgery.
Instructions
Customizing your knee planner tab:
- Click the Edit tab.
- Select the tab you'd like to save a tool from, choose the tool you'd like to add to your custom tab, and click the right arrow to add it.
- Repeat as needed.
Creating primitives:
- Use the Create Primitives tool, select Sphere under Type, and use the Fit to surface method.
- Set a Diameter in the Mark field, select the chosen area, and name it.
- Click Create to finalize.
Creating an origin point:
- Use the Create Primitives tool, select Point under Type, and use the Midpoint method.
- Select points A and B.
- Name the primitive and click Create to finalize.
Creating the mechanical access:
- Use the Create Primitives tool, select Line under Type, and use the Through 2 points method.
- Select points A and B through the origin point and the femoral head.
- Name the primitive and click Create to finalize.
Cutting the preoperative femur:
- Select the Cut tool.
- Select the femur in the Objects pane, then choose the planes you'll be Cutting with.
- Click Cut to cut all planes at once.
Snapshotting:
- Select the eye icons for the parts in the Object pane that you'd like a snapshot of.
- Click the plus icon in the Snapshots pane and rename the snapshot.
- Repeat the process to make snapshots as needed.
