Description
Honeycomb structures enable you to optimize your 3D-printed parts by making them lighter and more cost-effective, while maintaining their stability and strength. In this video, you'll learn how to implement honeycomb structures effectively in Magics to enhance your designs.
Instructions
Loading the part:
- Load the part and select the refresh icon (two circular arrows) to check for errors in the Diagnostics menu located in the narrow pane on the right
- Click on the Lattice ribbon at the top of the screen and select Honeycomb Lattice
Choosing a local honeycomb structure:
- A local honeycomb structure is only created around the marked triangles
- Choose LOCAL in the Honeycomb Lattice pop-up box
Choosing a global honeycomb structure:
- A global honeycomb structure applies to the entire part
- Choose GLOBAL in the Honeycomb Lattice pop-up box
Defining your parameters:
- Adjust parameters such as Wall thickness, Hole diameter, Infill thickness, and cell spacing to meet your specific requirements
- Select 'Make shell parts with marked face(s) removed' to indicate whether you want a part to be open in certain areas
- Select 'Make smooth honeycomb' to create rounded corners in the honeycomb cells
- Click OK to confirm your parameters and apply the honeycomb to the part
Filtering small voids:
- Select 'Filter partial honeycomb' to ensure that incomplete honeycomb cells on the edges of your part are not generated
