Learn how to use the Split Mask tool in Materialise Mimics Core, which allows you to separate anatomical structures quickly and easily, greatly speeding up the segmentation process.

Instructions

Defining target regions:

  1. Navigate to the Segment menu and select the Split Mask tool.
  2. Add or remove regions with the + and - buttons as needed to match the number of structures you are separating.
  3. Change the names of these regions (e.g., sacrum, pelvis, femur), so the final output masks are automatically labeled.


Marking structures:

  1. Mark regions with the Brush tool within both the 3D view and on the 2D slices. Note: typically, you only have to do a few slices.
  2. Focus your markings specifically on the areas where structures are connected or in very close proximity.
  3. Use the slider to adjust the Brush diameter for more precise marking.
  4. Erase as needed using the icon displaying a brush and a minus sign.
  5. Click OK to perform the operation.
