Frequently asked questions
Who is the Eyewear Fitting Suite for?
The Eyewear Fitting Suite is intended for in-store use by opticians working in large retail chains or individual opticians who are part of a buying group. It is not currently available for single-store opticians.
Do you offer a 3D-printed eyewear collection with the Eyewear Fitting Suite?
The Eyewear Fitting Suite can come with a collection of 3D-printed frames consisting of 18 different designs available in 23 colors. All frame designs are available in a range of sizes according to the best-fit algorithm on the platform.
Can I add one of my existing collections to the Eyewear Fitting Suite?
Currently, the Eyewear Fitting Suite works only with 3D-printed collections. If you have an existing 3DP collection that you would like to make available in the suite, please contact us to discuss.
Does the Eyewear Fitting Suite work with non-3D-printed frames?
The Eyewear Fitting Suite is designed for use with 3D-printed frames — this technology allows opticians to truly personalize the eyewear that they offer in terms of size and best fit. However, the software also works well as a measuring device; opticians can use it to help customers find a general size and shape that matches their taste instead of trying on every frame on the wall.
I’m an independent optician. Can I use the Eyewear Fitting Suite?
The Eyewear Fitting Suite is not currently available for independent opticians with fewer than ten stores. However, we are working hard to make sure that everyone has access to it in the future. If you would like to stay informed about future updates, please email us at eyewear@materialise.com. We’ll be sure to let you know when it is available for you.
How long does it take to create a 3D-printed collection?
It typically depends on the design and production requirements. Though no two collections are the same, a typical collection of five designs, for example, may take around three months from start to finish. Our 3D printing experts are on hand to support you from ideation to the full-scale production of your collection.
Is there an online version?
No — unlike online virtual try-on tools for off-the-shelf frames, the Eyewear Fitting Suite is designed as an in-store experience to help opticians differentiate themselves through personalization. Using this tool, they can ensure frames are perfectly fitted and offer their customers a variety of colors and styles.
