Dr. John Charity 

Associate Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedics, M.D. M.R.C.S. ChM T&O (Ed)

John Charity qualified in 1996 at the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil. After successfully completing a full residency programme and obtaining the title of Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedics through the National Board Examinations by the Brazilian Society of Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2001, he moved to Exeter with his wife for a visiting fellowship at the Hip Unit at in 2001. He then joined the visiting Clinician Programme at the lower limb adult reconstruction unit at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA in 2002. Later that year he was offered a permanent position at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter and became a member of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2005. In 2009 he was appointed Associate Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedics for the Hip Unit , his practice focusing in elective and trauma hip surgery. He has special interest in related research and has been involved in many of the projects produced by the Hip Unit. He is actively involved with medical education, surgeon training activities in hip arthroplasty and audit activities in hip fracture care at this Trust, being the local lead clinician for the National Hip Fracture Database. In 2015 he completed his Masters degree (ChM) in Trauma and Orthopaedics with distinction from the University of Edinburgh and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, being awarded the Sir Harold Stiles Medal.
