Description
Supports offer unique benefits in additive manufacturing, such as holding up overhangs and preventing deformations or errors caused by thermal stresses during printing. The Support Area Preview function allows you to analyze and adjust supports directly, saving you time and material while improving the overall print quality.
Instructions
General tip:
- Identify the areas that require supports to hold up overhangs before you begin
Using the Supported area preview function:
- Open the Support Generation tab in the Home ribbon at the top of the screen, and select the Supported area preview function (first icon on the left)
- Analyze the parameters in the pop-up box and see how supports will be applied to the part beforehand by selecting the show support preview checkbox
- Check if the part is positioned the way you require based on the preview
Adjusting the orientation with the rotate feature:
- Open the Position tab in the Home ribbon at the top of the screen and select the Rotate function (second cube from the left)
- You can actively adjust the orientation of the part to further optimize the support strategy using the sphere located in the center of the part
Modifying surface angles:
- Modify the angles of the supported surfaces by changing measurements in the Surface angle parameter found in the Supported area preview pop-up box
- Test different setups to find the ideal balance between part stability and minimal material usage, and click the OK button to confirm
Generating supports with SG+ or e-Stage for Metal+:
- Determine the optimal orientation of the part using the preview and rotation tools
- Open the Support Generation tab in the Home ribbon at the top of the screen, and select the Generate support (second icon from the left). Select the SG+ module or go to the Plug-ins tab on the Home Screen and select the e-Stage for Metal+ module to generate the final supports
- Select Execute in the pop-up box to generate the final supports
