Description
Discover how Magics' powerful Section Cut function helps you split large 3D models into perfectly fitting sections to put into your machine, offering versatile cutting options like overlaps, pins, and customizable contours for seamless assembly.
Instructions
Set a plane:
- Define the division plane before cutting by going to the right-side panel and using the MULTI-SECTION function (first transparent/blue cube icon)
- Adjust the numbers (mm) in the position column to set the plane
Pick a cutting type:
- Click the Section Cut icon in the Home ribbon at the top of the screen and select the cut you require in the pop-up box. You can choose from various cutting types tailored to meet specific assembly or design requirements.
Basic:
- Select the BASIC tab to define the contour where the part will be divided by selecting one of the options in the Cut based on section
- Determine if a gap is necessary between the two resulting pieces and the direction (inside, outside, or both) by toggling CLEARANCE and specifying the distance
- Tick the Autocolor result parts option to help visualize the separate parts
- Click OK to execute the cut and divide the part into separate pieces
Lap Joint:
- Select the LAP JOINT tab to create an overlap connection. In the Cut based on section, you can select whether you want cuts based on indicated section contour(s) or subcontour(s).
- Choose the specific contours of the cutting plane you wish to use in the Lap joint parameters
- Apply different cutting settings to individual areas f you prefer not to select all contours at once
- Confirm with OK to complete the process and generate the overlap connection.
- Click on the Translate icon in the Home ribbon and use the Translate Part(s) pop-up box to pull pieces apart and inspect the result
Pins & Holes:
- Select the PINS & HOLES tab to generate pins and holes at the cutting edges to facilitate precise assembly of the parts
- Pick the desired cutting contours in the model preview
- Adjust the size of the pins and the distances between them in the Pin/Hole size and placement and examine them in the preview screen
- Check the PART INFO section in the right-side panel for additional details on further customization options
- Execute the cut by selecting OK once all parameters are defined to create the final assembly edges
