Honeycomb structures reduce weight and material usage while preserving the strength and functionality of your part. In this video, we'll guide you through the honeycomb lattice process. Learn how to optimize parameters, eliminating the need for additional support while minimizing material consumption. Plus, gain tips to avoid incomplete cells at the edges, making powder removal easier.

Instructions

Loading the part:

  • Choose a recent file or select Open to load a part into the software
  • Navigate to the Part Fixing Info tab in the right-hand panel, and check for errors in the Diagnostic list before proceeding

Activating the honeycomb function:

  • Go to the Lattice ribbon at the top of the screen
  • Select the Honeycomb Lattice function (the first icon with a cube and lattice)

Setting parameters:

  • Define global settings, including Wall thickness, Hole diameter, and other parameters that affect cell spacing in the pop-up box

Removing marked areas:

  • Tick the box next to Make shell part with marked face(s) removed to ensure easier powder removal after the printing process is complete

Filtering for edges:

  • Tick the box next to Filter partial honeycombs to prevent the generation of incomplete honeycomb cells at the edges of the part
  • Tick the box next to Make smooth honeycomb to round the corners of the honeycomb cells for additional benefits

Setting the angle for the self-supporting feature:

  • Set the specific angle for the Self-supporting honeycomb (tick the box) to allow printing without the need for additional support structures

Applying changes:

  • Click the OK button once all desired parameters are configured
  • Allow the software to calculate the lattice and integrate the structure into the part

Checking the structure:

  • Inspect the inside of the part (the first icon with a transparent cube on the right-hand panel) to verify how the settings have been implemented
  • Confirm that the structure is optimized for stability and reduced material consumption while remaining self-supporting
