Accurate evaluation of implant placement

Accurate evaluation of implant placement

Evidence is an essential element in scientific research and therefore also key in positioning 3D Printing technology as a standard of care in hospitals. It is a crucial step in the process towards reimbursement of 3D-printed medical devices, which would make this technology accessible to patients, and also to their doctors and the hospitals who need proof of the benefits of this technology over the current standards.

In this context, we would like to engage the medical community in discussions on evidence-based studies and more precisely on the accurate measuring of implant placement when using 3D technology.

First, we presented an overview of existing evidence-based studies on medical applications of 3D Printing technology. We provided a brief summary of what ‘accuracy’ entails and an overview of existing post-operative evaluation techniques.

After the presentations, there was room for discussion about new ideas for evidence-based studies in different medical applications. As a concrete example, studies and measuring techniques for total knee arthroplasty were discussed.
