Designing a new jewelry collection involves a lot of time, effort and manual labor. But what if you could easily see the results of every little change? Instead of using traditional casting methods to create jewelry, Titan turned to 3D Printing. First the design gets put into a digital CAD file, which is then converted into a 3D-printable format with Materialise Magics software. The software converts file formats, edits object size and scale, fixes any conversion errors and adds support structure so the model doesn’t drift away on the printer bed. The model is then printed out in resin on a Stereolithography printer and in the final production stage, the 3D print is used as the master part from which all finished pieces of jewelry can be cast.

“Materialise Magics makes STL validation and repair much easier. It also gives us more confidence to 3D print parts without any defects or deviation, leading to innovative, high-quality products for our customers,” explains Mr. Karthikeyan, Manager of New Product Development at Titan Company Ltd, Jewelry Division.

The key advantages for Titan are the shortened lead times and unlimited design freedom. When creating a whole new jewelry collection, making too many changes can be costly and time-consuming. But with 3D Printing’s capacity for creating prototypes quickly and easily, designers have the freedom to experiment. And once the collection is in the final production stages, 3D printing the master model allows Titan to achieve a high level of intricacy, as well as enhancing their flexibility – products can be altered in size or multiplied in quantity in a minimum of time.
