“How Digitalization connects the Power of Additive Manufacturing in Industry 4.0”
The digitalization of the manufacturing industry is happening at a rapid pace. This is driven by an increased demand for process control, traceability, combined with the challenge of high labour costs. On the outskirts of Industry 4.0, additive manufacturing has, over the last 3 decades, matured in the fields of prototyping and research labs. Today, the breadth of applications of AM technology is growing exponentially and is bringing this technology forward as the latest serial production method. Together with an annual growth rate of 25% (Wohlers) and an anticipated overall business impact of 100 Billion by 2025 (McKinsey) it’s clear this technology is ready to be connected into Industry 4.0. This presentation will provide some insights into the various connections and integrations that will enable additive manufacturing to break into the digital eco-system of serial production. The increased level of interconnectivity is further accelerated by the standardization of many of the key data flows. Some exciting new workflows and opportunities will also be presented that can be captured by digitalizing the AM manufacturing workflow.
