Medical Research Engineer


The research team within our medical business unit evaluates emerging technologies to develop next-generation tools that may impact our product portfolio. As a research engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of preoperative planning and design automation tools for CMF applications. You work closely with internal business partners to understand business problems and design solutions that meet their needs.

What you will do

  • Apply a lean prototyping approach to quickly develop software prototypes that demonstrate the feasibility of novel technologies and can improve these to the required performance level
  • Evaluate the performance and clinical value of the tools developed with internal or external customers
  • Understand the market and competitive situation related to your area of research and stay up to date on the state of the art in the field
  • Further develop and support the maintenance of our Python-based software prototyping framework used within the research team
  • Report your findings in a clear, scientific, and accurate way; you have sound verbal skills to inform every team member about your results

Your profile

  • Strong analytical skills, allowing you to diagnose complex problems
  • A good knowledge of Python for developing software prototypes is required
  • Previous working experience in medical applications or agile software development
  • 5+ years of work experience in a similar position
  • A passion for new technologies with the foresight to see how they can support different business needs 
  • Pragmatic and flexible in your approach, using the right techniques to provide the necessary quality and detail while avoiding complex solutions
  • Your innovative mindset allows you to find creative solutions to complex challenges
  • You have an interest in the business aspects of industrial research and product innovation
  • You have an MSc/PhD in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. A PhD is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with working in the medical device field is preferred
