Category Buyer


At Materialise, you'll join a recently set-up global procurement team that is building toward a sustainable and mature procurement organization to enable Materialise's growth worldwide. As a Category Buyer, you'll provide procurement solutions expertise for a variety of categories across all business units with a primary focus on direct and indirect spend categories such as packaging, transportation, and indirect services for legal, HR, and facilities. Together with your internal customers, you'll grow cross-unit synergies, leverage and facilitate business potential, and empower local teams.

What you will do

  • Category management: develop, communicate, and create buy-in for your local/regional/global category strategies
  • Strategic sourcing: execute and manage the category strategies, taking into account the procurement policies/process flows and business objectives
  • Build strong supplier relations (SRM) to ensure standards for quality, delivery, and performance and manage a network of reliable value-adding suppliers via KPIs
  • Set up and perform data analysis on your categories to analyze cost drivers, understand category markets, and identify best practices
  • Recognize potential cost optimizations, taking into account TCO, standardization opportunities, and risk management
  • Contract governance: negotiate and implement contracts and service-level agreements, driving commercial and operational objectives
  • Partner with different departments such as legal, quality, and production/engineering to understand current and future business needs
  • This role reports to the Global Procurement Director

Your profile

  • Master’s degree or equivalent by experience 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role 
  • Analytical and financial capabilities to analyze and interpret data and turn it into insights
  • Strategic negotiation skills and an understanding of cost-driving elements 
  • Solution-oriented and project management approach mindset
  • Impeccable communicator and relationship builder with internal customers
  • Experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain is preferred
  • Experience in an international environment is a plus
  • Fluent in English, fluent in any other language is a plus
