The most exciting show for the Materialise USA software team is RAPID.  This 25-year-old show is known as the authority when it comes to 3D Printing, scanning and Additive Manufacturing.  And lucky for us, this year it was in Detroit, which is only about a 30 minute drive from our office. Because it’s our biggest show, lots of planning goes into it when trying to coordinate all the Materialise activities including booth schedules, customer meetings, press interviews, networking receptions and more!  This year was no exception as Materialise had a presence everywhere from the show floor to the conference and even the Slot Car Championship Networking Reception. We even showcased the first 3D-printed racecar, the Areion, which we printed for Formula Group T.

The show was off to a great start with Materialise USA’s Managing Director Bryan Crutchfield talking about 3D Printing with WJR Radio. https://twitter.com/AbbeyDelaney7/status/476307556634079232

Our booth became a center where people could come and learn about 3D Printing software. People were stopping by our booth to learn about our software such as Magics, e-Stage and Mimics, and to see some live demos. At one point, there was a line of people waiting to get a demo from the renowned application engineer Evan Kirby.

One of my favorite parts of the day was seeing Legacy Effects’ lead design engineer Jason Lopes. Not only did they submit a slot car for the championships, I also witnessed Jason Lopes talking to some local students about 3D Printing in Hollywood. https://twitter.com/AbbeyDelaney7/status/477538111090466816

We also had another booth that debuted RapidFit+ for the first time at RAPID.  As a provider of customized jigs for quality and safety checks, a 3D Printing show in the Motor City with the Big 3 and all their suppliers was definitely the right place to be.

And last but not least, we had a booth that let attendees be kids again.

Charlotte blogged about our championships last week, and during the rest of the time at RAPID attendees could still stop by all throughout the day and race one our 3D-printed slot cars.  I was happy to see so many smiling, happy faces.

Each year RAPID continues to get bigger and bigger.  This year there was almost 3,500 attendees.  We are so excited to see what next year brings as RAPID heads to Long Beach, California. Want to find out more about RAPID? Our MultiMediaMan Paolo made a great video of this event:
