Our practice has always believed in 3D treatment planning and from the beginning we at least used cross sectional imaging to plan implant cases. For more than 5 years we have treatment planned our implant reconstructive cases with CT's and CBCT's. I am really glad that I upgraded to SimPlant^® Pro. I have been using it to plan cases and I find that it is much easier to work with than other software programs. The images are very sharp and it makes the 3D world much simpler. Zimmer is my implant of choice, and the program automatically chooses a Zimmer tapered screw vent for me when I plan a case.In several instances using SimPlant^® I have found that I have been able to find bone to make the case work even in cases where, at first glance, it seemed that the case would require extensive grafting. I still believe that if a patient says yes, I often have to do a quick workup before he/she changes their mind, and therefore is nice to have the software readily available.

I purchased SimPlant^® Planner in January of this year and have found it essential in planning my implant cases. Generally, I have found that I often must use a much smaller implant than I originally planned. Assessing bone volume in two dimensions often results in missing important anatomical variations that can make all the difference to success of the case. I had been sending my scans to our local hospital, but recently I purchased a cone-beam scanner and now perform our scans in-house.
