Metal casting: Technical specifications

Standard lead time:

  • Investment casting: Masters from 5 days (on demand) to 10 days, aluminium parts 2 additional weeks
  • Rubber-plaster moulding: 15 days for a first batch of 5 castings

Standard accuracy:

  • Investment casting: Depends on the master's accuracy, in general 0.3 to ± 0.5 mm
  • Rubber-plaster moulding: ± 1%

Typical application:

  • Investment casting: Complex metal parts
  • Rubber-plaster moulding: Aluminium and zamac parts with complex smooth surfaces, without undercuts

Typical quantities:

  • Investment casting: 1 to 5 parts via selective laser sintering. Up to 100 via vacuum casting. Up to a few hundred with aluminium tools.
  • Rubber-plaster moulding: 25 copies or less, although larger quantities are also feasible

Casting material:

  • Investment casting: Aluminium and all types of metals can be used, but usually AlSi 7Mg
  • Rubber-plaster moulding: Different metals from low melt point tin and zinc alloys to aluminium
