28 Feb 2009 - Materialise Dental at the AO: A New Wave in Implant Therapy
At the 2009 Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, Materialise Dental was there in full force with a booth displaying the SimPlant® CompatAbility business model. Booth visitors were invited to satisfy their quest for knowledge on 3D Digital Dentistry while enjoying a 3D digital gaming experience with the possibility to take home their very own Nintendo Wii with the purchase of a SimPlant® Package.
SimPlant® CompatAbility business model: versatility for all levels of users
Materialise Dental focuses on 3D Digital Dentistry, offering a range of products and services to implant professionals and their patients. From scanning and planning, to drilling and implant placement, to the ultimate Immediate Smile®, the company’s SimPlant® technology offers clinicians a comprehensive 3D system for accurate and predictable implant treatment. The SimPlant® system is cost-effective, user-friendly and uniquely compatible with the brands and equipment that clinicians already know and use. This is SimPlant® CompatAbility and it means versatility for everyone, whether a beginner or an experienced user.
3D Digital Dentistry meets 3D Digital Gaming
The Materialise Dental booth was full of members, faculty, speakers, industry patrons, and students throughout the breaks, lunches, and reception on Thursday. Their theme “3D Digital Dentistry meets 3D Digital Gaming” was on display as they entertained passers-by with their Nintendo Wii Promotion.
This year’s Annual Meeting theme was “A New Wave in Implant Therapy,” and one couldn’t help but notice an underlying tone to that theme during all of the main podium lectures, corporate forums, and breakout sessions – (CB) CT Guided treatment planning using three-dimensional tools. In the AstraTech Dental corporate forum Dr. Scott Ganz talked about the integration of technologies including Facilitate and Atlantis abutments to reach an optimal esthetic and prosthetic result. Dr. Alan Rosenfeld spoke about “The art of computer guided navigation for implant placement and immediate provisionalization” while Dr. Michael Block spoke about “Patient selection criteria and avoidance of CT guidance related complications” during the Biomet 3i corporate forum. Other implant companies, like Straumann, also hosted corporate forums and included the importance of computer guided implant dentistry.
During Friday morning’s round table lectures Dr. E. Todd Scheyer spoke about “Implementing 3D technology into your implant practice”, Dr. Paul Click elaborated on “Stereolithographic models for guided implant surgery and immediate provisional restoration”, and Dr. Alan Winter spoke on the “Capabilities and liabilities of Cone Beam technology.” The fun using (CB) CT and 3D treatment planning technology didn’t stop there. Throughout the entire meeting immediate loading using guided surgery was a large topic of interest for both speakers and participants.
SimPlant® CompatAbility expert sessions
The expert sessions, organized by Materialise Dental and its SimPlant® Academy, offered clinicians a unique opportunity to meet experts in computer guided implant dentistry in a casual and interactive atmosphere. Short lectures on different topics were held, such as an elaboration on the different types of SurgiGuide® drill guides available, the new features of the latest SimPlant® 12 software version, and the Immediate Smile® concept. During lunch on Friday participants were invited to come and bring their lunches to the Materialise Dental booth to hear from world renowned clinical expert Dr. Scott Ganz speak on the SimPlant® technology as he has been a part of it since its inception in the early nineties.
