SurgiGuide step by step

You can see how to use a SurgiGuide drill guide for accurate implant placement in 7 steps. For a more detailed explanation, you can download the SurgiGuide Cookbook.

Step 1: Diagnosis

The patient comes in, looking for a beautiful new smile. The dental surgeon makes the first diagnosis and decides together with the patient on implant placement.

Step 2: The scan prosthesis

In collaboration with your dental laboratory, a scan prosthesis can be prepared. What kind of scan prosthesis you need depends on the type of SurgiGuide you are going to use during your treatment plan.

Step 3: Taking the 3D scan

The treatment starts with the taking of a 3D scan of the patient's mouth. This 3D-scan can be taken by a CT scanner or a Cone beam scanner. The scan can be taken in a hospital nearby.

Taking a CT scan with the correct parameters is the basis for an accurate planning of your implants. The 'Scan Protocol' explains how an optimal scan can be taken. Only one good scan is needed for an accurate plan. This saves time and money for you and your patient.

Step 4: Conversion of the data into SimPlant 3D images

You send the CT or Cone beam data to a SimPlant Master site nearby. You will get a file that contains an insight of your patient's anatomy in 2D and 3D images so you can start the planning in SimPlant.

Step 5: Planning with SimPlant software

Place the implants in the imported images or the 3D model. To help you making the plan in SimPlant, Materialise Dental offers you:

  • SimPlant courses (organized by the SimPlant Academy)
  • Tutorial movies
  • Help files incorporated into the SimPlant Software
  • SimPlant helpdesk (contact)

After you made the planning, you can discuss it with your colleagues, your dental lab, the patient, ... using SimPlant as a strong communication tool.

Step 6: SurgiGuide and SAFE SurgiGuide

SurgiGuide or SAFE SurgiGuide links your final treatment planning to the actual surgery. You can order a SurgiGuide drill guide easily by uploading the order in SimPlant. The SurgiGuide drill guides or  the SAFE SurgiGuide will be manufactured at the Headquarters of Materialise Dental.

Step 7: Delivery and Surgery

You could simulate the surgery in SimPlant. During the surgery itself, SurgiGuide drill guides will assist you placing the implants more accurately and you will need less invasive techniques. If you opt for the surgical procedure Immediate smile, the patient will walk home with a set of beautiful new teeth.
