Mimics 13: another leap forward in 3D image processing

For this new Mimics release, we mainly focused on helping you create faster and better 3D models of your scan data. We know, thanks to our customers’ feedback, that gaining time is one of your main concerns. That’s why we made sure that not only segmentation is improved in Mimics 13, also optimizing the final outcome goes faster than ever before.

Achieve more accurate 3D models of the most complex scanner data in no time

Are you losing too much time in the segmentation of low quality scanner data or data with very complex structures? With Mimics 13 this belongs to the past. We’ve developed a unique 3D LiveWire tool, which applies the power of contour segmentation in 3 dimensions! This magnetic lasso follows very precisely the boundaries of a gray-value area in your slices. After selecting the area in two views, Mimics automatically finds the boundaries on the remaining view and adds it to a mask. The 3D LiveWire not only saves time, it also gives you more control over segmentation than any other tool. It offers you the possibility to segment any scan, no matter how complex, with the highest accuracy. It goes without saying that we also made the LiveWire available for 2D editing.

 

 

Noise reduction in the wink of an eye

 

Scanner data always contains some level of noise. As a result, your segmentation mask will be a bit rugged, resulting in 3D models that aren’t smooth To solve this problem, we added mask smoothing to Mimics13. This function smooths your segmentation mask and as a result you create a more realistic segmentation in a single mouse-click!

Quickly prepare multi-material models for FEA

 

Mimics now offers the possibility of calculating two or more neighboring 3D models with common borders simultaneously. This is especially helpful when you are going to finite element analysis. You can optimize the mesh as one part and you can assign a different material to each subvolume. The common borders ensure a perfect force transfer during simulation. It will speed up your material assignment on complex data sets significantly. And to deal even better with these complex meshes, we also improved our remesher. Mesh preparation of multiple materials has never been easier than with Mimics13.

Swift defeaturing using 3D post-processing

The wrap tool for efficiently closing small holes in a 3D model was introduced in Mimics 12, allowing for fast defeaturing. In this new release, we made this highly valued wrap feature available as a 3D post-processing tool in our STL+ module. This means more people can benefit from it and generate nicely wrapped 3D models.
