Magics leads the race for customization

Using Magics to design 3D models is highly intuitive: you don’t need to be educated in design. Magics makes the creation and manipulation of 3D data a piece of cake. By combining the laser sintering technology and Magics software everybody is capable of creating complex products. This is the beginning of a revolution!

Magics is more than just software – Magics also stands for individuality

The latest version of Magics software has recently been launched: Magics 13. This latest release of Magics makes another huge leap towards the complete optimization of RP&M processes. The enhanced capabilities enable easier work preparation, increased process efficiency and advanced data handling. This provides significant timesaving, which in turn has a positive effect on the complete work process and the people involved in this process.

One of the latest projects undertaken by EOS (Germany), illustrates that Magics goes beyond data handling and work preparation to provide the perfect tools to ’materialise‘ creative ideas.

Magics – Express your individuality

EOS GmbH was founded in 1989 by Dr. Langer in Munich. Over the past years the company has grown into a world leader in the field of laser sintering and has used Magics software from the very beginning. The virtually unlimited possibilities of the laser sintering technology inspire EOS employees to limits – new concepts rapidly succeed one another. On a daily basis, employees of EOS are constantly confronted with new challenges, however Magics provides its users with the creative freedom to transform the most abstracts of concepts into reality.

Screen capture of the handlebar design

Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Mattes, Vice President P Technology EOS, is one of those creative gentlemen who combines his private passion with his enthusiasm for weight-saving engineering. As a former tri-athlete, he hasn’t lost his enthusiasm for top-class sport or the endless search for the optimization of bicycles. That’s why Mr. Mattes decided to construct optimized and individually tuned handlebars for a triathlon bicycle. He performed the complete design of the handlebars using Magics software.

'Aero Handlebars' produced using laser sintering

The triathlon handlebars were designed and built in one single piece: the cable conductors, the arm rests and the connectors for the gear shift handle were integrated into the part. With a weight of only 212g, the handlebars are about 54% lighter than the standard handlebar produced using conventional methods. For a sport where every gram counts, this is a huge saving. The “Aero Handlebars“ are precisely tailored to the arms of Mr. Mattes to ensure the optimal ergonomic fit.

Magics was used to realize his idea. Thanks to the variety of software tools, the data for the perfect customized triathlon handle bars for Mr. Mattes could be realized in a breeze.

At this moment in time Magics finds itself at a turning point. In the future, Materialise software will be further enhanced for the realization of individual ideas and will be a vital tool for RP&M project and process planning. Despite these future enhancements, Magics will remain the software solution for any RP&M professional and will provide its users with a highly efficient way of working.
